I got tired of watching good people get let down.

I've spent 18 years working in motorsport. In that time I've seen how the best teams operate, and I've also seen how hard it is for smaller organisations to get the same quality of support.

Good engineers doing serious work, let down by suppliers who go quiet, can't commit to a delivery date, or charge prices that only make sense if you're a factory team. That always frustrated me. So in October 2024, I decided to do something about it.

Who are Mullan Racing?

My name is James Mullan. I'm the founder of Mullan Racing and a Number 1 Mechanic with 18 years of experience across elite motorsport championships.

My career includes:

  • 7 years with Rebellion Racing working across WEC and IMSA endurance racing, pushing a privateer team against some of the biggest manufacturers in the sport
  • 3 years with Mercedes-Benz Formula E part of a multi-championship winning team, which taught me a great deal about how well-run organisations operate
  • 5 years with Mercedes-Benz/McLaren Formula E part of a multi-championship winning team, which taught me a great deal about how well-run organisations operate
  • Hands-on experience across BTCC, GT, and Extreme E, in roles covering wheel gun, wheel feeder, car controller, fabrication, and technical subassembly

Alongside the mechanical work I picked up CAD design, 3D printing, damper testing, and precision subassembly, skills I use every day now at Mullan Racing.
